Haldighati is a mountain pass between Khamnore and Balicha village situated at Aravalli Range of Rajsamand district in Rajasthan.  It is 44 kilometers from Udaipur.
This narrow turmeric coloured mountainous region which played a stellar role in defending the honour of Mewar dynasty, is known as Haldighati.  Due to the tumeric colour of the mountains, these are called Haldi-Ghati.

History

In 1576, Haldighati witness a huge war between Rana Pratap Singh of Mewar and Raja Man Singh of Amber. When Mughal commander attacked this region but had to beat retreat because of the forces led by Maharana Pratap . By employing the guerilla warfare technique, the Rajput forces pushed the Mughals from the royal camp at Badshah Baag to open plains of Rakt Talai . Great battlefield, brave soldiers heroic deeds and red color soil tuned by blood makes a visitor sweating. Maharana Pratap and his horse ‘Chetak’ were the hero’s of Haldighati battle. This blooy battle takes away many lives with loyal Chetak also. Nearby pure white marble cenotaph is dedicated to courteous Chetak.

Architecture of Haldighati

Haldighati derived its name from the term ‘Haldi’ means turmeric in English, used as a spice in Indian delicacies and ‘Ghati’ means valley which together makes the name Haldighati. The soil found in this region of Udaipur is yellow in color, hence the place is named Haldighati. There is a cenotaph called chhatri in Hindi built on the place where the horse of Maharana Pratap, Chetak breathed his last. This cenotaph is located at a close distance of 4 Km from the Haldighati in pure white marble to pay respect and admire the contribution of the fastest horse in Indian history.

You can find Balicha village located close to the region known for its unique knowledge of arts and crafts via terracotta. There is a stunning garden in the name of Badshahi Bagh. The presence of ‘Chaitri-Gulab, original and authentic rose water, and ‘Gulkand’ (jam made from rose petals) is unique to this garden. The rose water is of great medicinal importance.

How To Reach Haldighati?

  • By Air: If you want to reach at Haldighati by Air. Then the nearest airport to the site of Haldighati is situated in Udaipur at a distance of about 50 km. You may get direct buses and cabs to Haldighati from Udaipur.
  • By Rail: If you want to reach at Haldighati by Rail, then the best way to reach Haldighati is by taking a direct train to Udaipur. After that, you just need to take a bus or cab to Haldighati.
  • By Road: Cause of a mountain pass, the place of Haldighati is well connected to other towns or cities by road. Thus, You may easily travel to Haldighati by road.

Industrial importance in Haldighati 

Haldighati is also world famous for it’s chaitry rose product and the( mud art) Terracota of Molela. Thr Department of Tourism is promoting a private cottage industry by adding his information in Government publication instead of battle ground Rakt Talai and Main Haldighati Pass. The fact is in the protection of administration, this Cottage Industry is creating a new history in Balicha village as the part of Haldighati and doing trespass near National Monument.
Balicha Village is a short village located at a short distance from the place. It is famous for its terracotta crafts. The presence of ‘Chaitri-Gulab’ makes Badshahi Bagh famous. Original rose water and ‘Gulkand’ (jam made from rose petals) that has immense medicinal value are prominent highlights of this garden.

Best time to visit Haldighati

The best time to visit Haldighati is the month between October and March. During this time, you can escape the unbearable heat of the sun. The months from July to September end are also favorable as rainy season acts a savior here.

  • Other than Maharana Pratap Museum and Chetak Smarak, you can find a variety of areas in the form of temples, age-old forts and royal palaces to travel around the Haldighati.
  • The Nala Re Bherunath Ji temple, Kaloda Mahakali Temple, Varai Mata Temple, Bhawani Mata Temple Semal Rajasthan, Gada Mataji, Sri Harirai Ji Baithak, Kheda Devi Mataji Molela, Neramand Bherunath, the famous Saas Bahu temple are found nearby.
  • Ambrai Ghat is a beautiful place to sit and relax for some time.
  • Rakt Talai Khamnore is a lovely state park to visit nearby.
  • Molela Terracotta– Molela Terracotta is a small, nondescript village of potters found on the banks of river Banas. The art of flat terracotta plaques is unique to this village.
  • Ahar Museum- This archaeologically significant museum is a storehouse of exquisite royal cenotaphs of Mewar Kingdom found on display.
